What are Developer Accounts?
Developer Accounts are membership accounts that Apple and Google require in order to upload mobile applications and allow them to be displayed and downloadable in the App Stores. Every Mobile Application must reside in an Apple and Google/Android developer account (they are two separate systems requiring separate developer accounts) or it will not be available for download.
How does my App get into a Developer Account?
HomeStack makes it very easy to get your app into a Developer Account and takes on all the heavy lifting of setup and management. For your Android App, we put your application in a general account that we maintain and waive the cost associated with this account. For your Apple App, we will set up a Developer Account on your behalf using your legal name. We take on the set up work and maintenance of these accounts as apart of your fees. However, Apple does require a $99 annual membership fee in order to keep the account active and the App(s) within it live. This fee is paid by you, the client, directly to Apple upon set up and each renewal. HomeStack will alert you before this renewal to ensure there is no disruption and that the payment information on file with Apple is up to date.
Is there any other benefits for me having a Developer Account?
Yes, there are multiple additional benefits to having a Developer Account for your Apple App. First, having your own developer account allows you to be branded on the account each time your App is searched for in the store instead of our branding (HomeStack). Second, it allows for expanded App Store searching capabilities as the developer account name is used as a search driver in the App Store. Additionally, it keeps the number of similar Apps displayed in the search results lower, keeping your App as the primary focus.
Is it required to have an Apple Developer Account Membership?
Yes. Apple requires that each client have their own developer account membership as of June 2017. This is explicitly stated in the Apple developer account membership terms of use. If you are a client who signed up before this time you are not required to have your own account but you will be ineligible for any software updates unless an account is created and Apple will remove your app from their app store. What if I do not renew my Apple Developer Account?
Your App will be removed from the Apple App Store and will not be able to be searched or downloaded on any Apple or IOS devices. Also, HomeStack will not be able to perform any updates to your software. Your App will be fully functional for current downloads and HomeStack will continue to maintain your software for these current downloads.
